ABOUT FOOD SAFARI

In its successful, inaugural exhibition in 2008, the Food Safari saw a record number of 200,000 visitors within just 3 days. Previous visitors were thrilled by the revelation of meter-long pizza-making, enlightened by the art of “sashimi” preparation from different countries and held in suspense over the Safari King Culinary Challenge, among other exciting activities.

FOOD SAFARI 2010

Now in 2010, the Food Safari is back once again to raise the bar even higher, thanks to an exciting, power-packed weekend filled with exciting programmes, lively entertainment and most of all, marvellous spread of appetizing local and international dishes.

Held in conjunction with the Deepavali long weekend holiday, visitors will have an exciting adventure navigating their way through a terrain of exotic food and cuisines from all around the world – all without leaving the borders of Singapore.

With events that span from interactive stage programmes ranging such as Roti-Prata Throwing and Bao Folding contests to gourmet showcases like ‘All About Fresh Cheese’ as well as the trademark adrenaline–inducing Safari Champion Culinary Challenge and Cake-a-Décor Contest, visitors are left spoilt for choice of activities to engage and participate in.

Amidst the bustling Safari, a dedicated “In The Kitchen” zone offers a small reprieve from the food-tasting with an array of the best value Home & Electronic and kitchen wares available. Shoppers are offered the rare opportunity of guilt-free shopping with these unbelievably value-priced home appliances and kitchenware deals in this intoxicating, vibrant 3-day weekend.

International Food Pavilions

Savour the delicacies from international destinations at one event!

Indian Pavilion

Visitors who love Indian Cuisine for its spice and unique aromas must not miss a pitstop at the Indian Restaurants Pavilion. Featuring high end restaurants like Gayatri Restaurant, Jaggi’s Northern Indian Cuisine and Muthu’s Curry, there will be a vast selection of Indian Culinary favourites like Chicken Tikka, Masala Curry, Roti Prata and Briyani available.

Dutch Gourmet Cheeses & Foodstuffs

Indulge your senses in the exquisite creamy tastes of Beemster Cheeses. These gourmet cheeses are made from milk from dairy cows on the lush grass lands of the Beemster Polder of the Netherlands, grazing on vegetation grown on special blue clay rich in minerals. Artisanal Beemster Cheese are rich in texture and flavour. Available at The Food Safari are some of Beemster’s most popular cheeses from The Royal Garden, matured and classic selections such as Nettles, Beemster XO (aged 26 months), Organic, Lite Matured and Vlaskaas.

Spanish Food Haven

Pamper yourself with some Mediterranean-style cuisine from the Spanish Pavilion. Savour a wonderful selection of authentic Spanish tapas, paella, roast pork, Spanish ham etc. This pavilion serves authentic Spanish fare with a comprehensive menu that includes a wide range of tapas, salads, mains and other Spanish delicacies. It also serves one of the best paella in Singapore, made with the best and finest ingredients and prepared to exacting standards by their chef.

Turkish Delights

Enjoy a hearty meal of Turkish kebabs, wraps and ice-cream being served by the ever friendly and cheeky Turkish chefs!

Sweet Treats

Dessert lovers rejoice! Indulge yourself in a heavenly spread of mouth-watering desserts that leave you wanting more! Choose a selection of sweet temptations. Not to be missed are: The artisanal selections from Galta Gelato, fine Italian Gelato made with top quality ingredients sourced from Europe. The Pattisier with exquisite bakes will be launching their new flavours. Safari Champion Culinary Challenge

The popular Safari King Culinary Challenge is back once again to scour the plains for this year’s Safari King of 2010.

Co-organized by Singapore Chefs’ Association and Sphere Exhibits, this Culinary Challenge is open only to professional chefs and members of the Singapore Chefs’ Association.

These talented contestants are tasked to pit their culinary prowess against one another by using ingredients from the Mystery Basket, as provokingly made known to them only at the start of the event. These talented chefs will brutally battle to whip up an innovative and delicious new Singapore dish using well-known Singapore flavours and ingredients.

This competitive, testosterone-charged event, inspired by the popular Iron Chef TV-series, will be sure to keep food enthusiasts glued to the edge of their seats as these chefs compete for the champion title “Safari King of 2010”.

Cake-a-Décor Competition

For passionate lovers and makers of desserts, the Cake-a-Décor competition is an interesting eye-opener into the competitive world of cake-decorating.

Co-organised by Singapore Bakery and the Confectionery Trade Association, visitors are allowed a rare insight into the simple techniques as well as special finesse required in elaborate cake-decorating. Aspiring amateur cake-decoraters are given this rare opportunity to hone and showcase their cake-creation skills to the public in this unique challenge.

At the end of this eye -pleasing challenge, knowledge of the refined technique and effort involved in cake-decorating will surely make even the most unaffected of dessert-consumers derive an added tenfold of pleasure from each mouthful of cake.
